About Us

The Blind Shop, Cavendish Street, Barrow-in-Furness, provides a much needed point of contact in the high street. From here we produce our fortnightly talking newspaper, producing over 220 copies on CD and cassette in our studio.

The Society's residential home, Ostley House can accommodate 38 residents and has facilities for day care and short term 'respite care' - brochure available.

We operate social clubs in Barrow, Millom and Grange-over-Sands and in Barrow and Ulverston the Society runs craft classes. Social outings feature in the Society's activities.

We are agents for RNIB Talking Book Service and the British Wireless for the Blind Fund, and can offer on free loan a CD/Radio/Cassette player for those who have lost their sight.

Finally, and most importantly, our Social Work Team provides 100 hours of help to blind and partially sighted people who require assistance with daily living skills, such as form filling, supply of aid and apparatus and the teaching of Braille to those who require it.
